Afro House Classics

I was approached to design the cover art for a compilation series of afro house tunes. Tribe Records were looking to define a new visual style for this series to help differentiate it from the rest of their catalogue. The design would also have to steer clear of any afro house visual cliches, giving the flexibility to potentially move outside the genre in future. The end result used some of the amazing photography and choreography from the afro house scene to represent the music on the compilation.

Goals

  • Design a layout that stands out from other releases on the label.
  • Have a flexible design that can be used with other genres.

Challenges

  • Steering clear of any afro house design cliches while also representing the genre.

Solutions

  • Incorporating the amazing dancers and photography from the afro house scene.
