The Hateful Createful


The Hateful Createful are a Melbourne-based, streetwear brand with roots in skateboarding and punk rock, creating everything from hoodies and tees to beanies and socks.  With no intentions of taking over the world, they just want to create a brand that people can identify with.  Plus, the founders name is also Ryan!

Goals

  • Portray a “hateful” vibe in a skateboarding/punk rock aesthetic.
  • Create a logo that works across multiple different types of apparel.

Challenges

  • Achieving a hand-written aesthetic.
  • Create branding that is relatable but unique to the audience.

Solutions

  • Starting with lots of low fidelity sketching to really nail the creative direction early on.

Ideation

The process began with a mood board and lots of low-fidelity sketching to help nail a creative direction.

The Logo

In order to be used across various items of clothing ranging from hoodies to beanies, the logo had to be versatile.  The final design allowed for a couple of layout options or simply as the “paper bag” icon by itself.
